San Juan County Partnership works to reduce prescription painkiller misuse and abuse by youth and adults in San Juan County in order to curb future opiod use, addiction and overdose deaths. Strategies include:
- Providing prescription drug guidebooks to parents and the general public that outline the dangers of misuse and give safe storage and disposal information.
- Working with local pharmacies to provide education to customers on safe storage and disposal of unused or expired medications, as well as dangers of sharing prescription meds.
- Providing information to county residents on the dangers of sharing prescription drugs with those who have not been prescribed the medications.
- Concentrating prescription drug misuse information in areas of the county that have higher rates of overdoses.
